Golf Course Superintendent

Muskoka Highlands Golf Links is hiring a Golf Superintendent for the upcoming 2024 golf season. We are in the heart of Cottage Country, Bracebridge, Ontario and are a small, family owned and operated golf course. We have 18 holes of golf, a Lawn Bowling green, and a full-length Driving Range with a grass tee.

It is an exciting time at Muskoka Highlands as we are in the early stages of redeveloping the golf course from 18 holes to 12 holes. While we are losing six holes to a much-needed attainable housing development, the responsibilities of the Superintendent will grow as we retain maintenance responsibilities for the new houses built on site. The Superintendent will also be a key contributor in helping shape the remaining golf holes into a challenging, yet playable 12-hole circuit.

The successful applicant will be a highly motivated individual with strong communication skills who takes pride in their work.

Expected Responsibilities:

• Being an effective role model, communicator and leader who will set a positive example to all employees and guests.
• Supervising, leading and assisting in all maintenance programs and day to day turf operations.
• Mentoring and supervising the training of new and returning staff on job functions as well as the care and safety of all maintenance equipment
• Assisting in the recruitment of new employees
• Frequent communication with General Manager to discuss plans, customer feedback, events.
• Management of all playing areas: tees, greens, fairways, rough, hole locations, marker placement, sand traps, cart paths and way finding.
• Supervising turf irrigation, water usage and irrigation maintenance for golf course and including grass, trees and plants. Ability to trouble shoot Toro irrigation system challenges.
• Supervising and participation in the application and usage of pesticides, fungicides and fertilizers as well as developing an annual plan for chemical and fertilizing use.
• Proper record keeping and logs for water usage, fertilization and chemical applications to assist annual filing of the IPM report.
• Scheduling, payroll administration and budgeting
• Performing other duties as required.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• 3-5 years of supervisory experience at a golf course facility or similar property.
• Turf Management Diploma or equivalent
• Must hold a valid Ontario Landscape Pesticide Application License
• IPM Certification & Accreditation
• First Aid/CPR
• Experience with Toro irrigation systems an asset.
• Knowledge of expense management and budgeting.
• Strong attention to detail and highly organized.

Pay structure – to be outlined in interviews. The total package will be a minimum of $75k per year.
