Position: General Manager, Full-Time

ABOUT PPGC:
Pippy Park Golf Course is a challenging 27-hole public golf course situated in the heart of the City of St. John's, Newfoundland. Named Golf Course of the Year for 2022 by Golf NL, PPGC features a pro shop, golfer's lounge, on-course snack bar, and banquet facility with the best view of the city.

DUTIES:
Planing, leading, executing and managing PPGC Ltd. operations (Grounds, Pro Shop/Starters and Food/Beverage) in accordance with good golf course management practices, all relevant government regulations, and Policies and Procedures of PPGC. Reporting to the Board Chair of PPGC and the Executive Director of the PPC, the General Manager is a key resource in the development of new policies and strategic initiatives and its overall long-range development plan. This position requires flexible time management during peak season and close coordination with the divisional supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Degree, diploma or certificate in golf course care, development, management, and operation (equivalencies will be considered)
• Experience in Resource Management (financial and human)
• Experience in client service orientation
• Experience in golf operations (an asset)
• Experience with Tee-On or other on-line booking systems (an asset)
• Experience using social media as a marketing tool
• Effective communication skills (oral and written)
• Experience in project planning and management (an asset)
• Organizational, leadership, and team building skills
• Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Familiarity working in a unionized environment (an asset)
• A valid “Certificate of Good Conduct" from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador

PLANNING:
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Manager helps to develop the overall mission, strategic direction, goals, as well as the budgeting and operating principles of the organization. In addition, the Manager participates in planning and managing Golf Course Projects as well as initiatives in the Food and Beverage division.

FINANCIAL/MARKETING:

• Assures sound accounting principles are followed
• Participates in annual budget process
• Oversees the marketing and promotion of all PPGC Ltd. services on all platforms
• Implements all financial policies and procedures established by the Board of Directors

OPERATIONS/SERVICES:

• Oversees the daily operation of PPGC in cooperation with the divisional supervisors in accordance with the objectives established by the Board of Directors
• Ensures appropriate policies and procedures are in place and being followed

HUMAN RESOURCES:

• Provides leadership by effectively motivating and supporting all employees and developing an organizational culture conducive to achieving PPGC's mission, strategic direction, and goals
• Oversees approved plans for the hiring, training, development, retention, and evaluation of PPGC employees

BOARD OF DIRECTORS:

• Assures an adequate presence on social media to promote and inform the public on the status of operations and events of PPGC
• Channels relevant matters pertaining to the activities of the PPGC to the Board for appropriate oversight and approval
• Makes recommendations to the Board for improvements to key aspects of the PPGC operation
• Implements decisions of the Board and communicates these decisions to key personnel
• Provides reports and related information as required to the Board of Directors, otherdesignated organizations and regulatory agencies
• Supports the work of Board Committees
• Performs other tasks as directed by the Board of Directors

SALARY:
